Growing up in West Michigan, Genevieve developed a deep-seated love for transforming her environment. Her childhood was filled with the thrill of rearranging her bedroom, where she would spend hours experimenting with different layouts. On occasion, she would even have her bed jutting out from the closet, all in the name of finding that perfect open floor plan.
After graduating high school, Genevieve embarked on a decade-long journey in the retail and furniture sales industry. Her innate ability to visualize design solutions not only for her own living spaces but also for her customers quickly became apparent. This hands-on experience deepened her understanding of furniture and interior design, allowing her to develop a keen eye for style and functionality.
Genevieve wasn't just about creating beautiful homes; she took a surprising turn and joined the military! Growing up, she was inspired by those army commercials showcasing heroism and community service, and she knew she wanted in on that action. So, when she found out there was an age limit, she quickly signed a six-year contract at age 27. But, as fate would have it, just a year later, she ended up breaking her hip and had to leave the service.
As a civilian again, she transitioned from renting cozy studio apartments in her 20s to owning her first small home in her 30s, Genevieve encountered a common struggle: while oversized furniture was plentiful, finding smaller-scale solutions was a challenge. This realization ignited a spark in her to address the pressing need for innovative small-space solutions in modern living.
Driven by her passion for furniture and efficient space utilization, Genevieve began to explore better ways to make furniture more versatile, multifunctional, and overall not take up so much space. This rabbit hole of research inspired the creation of IOTA, a business model dedicated to optimize living areas with modern-contemporary, solution-based furniture. With downsizing becoming increasingly prevalent, Genevieve is committed to helping individuals navigate their living spaces, ensuring that every piece of furniture not only looks good but also enhances space efficiency, functionality and style.
